Important Things That You Must Do If You Wish To Start A Business In Nigeria After Your College

  1. Do the things that give you fulfillment

Your ability to follow your passion is very important because it is your passion as the founder of the business that makes it thrive even in the face of challenges.

Doing the thing that makes you happy is central to starting a successful business in Nigeria. When I said “doing things that you happy”, I don’t mean that you just waste your time on nonproductive ventures and hope to be successful.

The essence of what I am saying is that by doing the thing that is your passion, you stand a greater chance to excel in the face of obstacles and setbacks.

  1. Have the courage to explore new ideas

It is not always easy to start something new, to change from the norm. If you really wish to do great things as an entrepreneur, you must be bold enough to take the leap even in the face of fear.

So long as you have done your due diligence in carrying out your analysis, follow it through.  It was Gary Kasparov, the chess grandmaster that said and I quote, “we will always regret bad moves, but it is much worse to forever regret an opportunity we allowed pass us by”.

I know that it is not easy to do, but if you wish to start a business in Nigeria after your college, then you must follow your idea to materialize it.

  1. You must have a mentor

The issue of having mentors is not something that is widespread in our Nigerian society, but it is really important if you wish to go far in business as a young person.

Mentors help you minimize mistakes by teaching you from their own experience in the business world. To survive and be successful in your business, you must understand how to run a business in the real world. Mentors help you understand business from the real world perspective.

I advise that you find a mentor in the business line you are going into for your own good.

  1. Build your network

To succeed in the business world, you must have people that are reasoning in the same direction as you are.

Without a good network of professional individuals, there will be very little chance of you succeeding in your business.

These people help make your vision and mission a reality. You must choose your network very carefully if you wish to go all the way in business.

  1. Develop yourself

You must put some of your time and energy into developing yourself. Don’t just focus on building only your business, also build yourself.

Your business cannot grow more than you are able to grow. Your level of development impacts greatly on your business whether you like it or not.

If you wish to start a business in Nigeria after your college, then you must take personal development very seriously. Improve your communication skills, listening skills, public speaking etc.

  1. Understand all there is about finance

This really a very important thing to know and understand. If you as an entrepreneur fail to understand the dynamics that come with money and finance, then you will run into big problems in the future.

Issues about financial analysis, taxes, and budgeting must be taken very seriously and given the needed attention for the good of you and your business.

  1. Be disciplined and resilient

Without discipline and resilience, you will fail before you even get started. There will certainly be tough times and if you lack the tenacity and resilience to hold on, that marks the beginning of the end for your business.

You must have the discipline to reject instant gratification for the good of your business. I am not saying that you should not enjoy yourself because you are a businessman/woman.

All I am saying is that during the startup phase of your business, you must give you all to make it stand.

  1. Never be afraid of failure

The mindset that failure is unacceptable should be deleted from your mind. You must understand that failure is part of the building process.

If you think that you are too big to lose, then you are also too big to win. Failure is not the end, rather it is a lesson that you need to do something different and in a better fashion.

We always learn more from failure than from success. I am not saying that you should plan to fail, no, far from the truth.

All I am saying is that you should do your best, and when it doesn’t work as planned, you re-strategize

If you wish to start a business in Nigeria after your college, then you must pay attention to do all that I have highlighted in this article.

It is not a certainty that you will excel in your business when you do all that I have said, but it will really increase your chances of excelling in your business beyond your imagination.
