The Global Systems Mobile Association (GSMA) is an originally European trade body that represents the interests of mobile network operators worldwide. There are approximately 800 mobile operators that are full members of GSMA. It also organizes the mobile industry’s biggest annual exhibition and conference called the Mobile World Congress.

The funding aims at using innovations in mobile technology to address humanitarian challenges worldwide. The impact of the project must be delivered in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Latin America. GSMA Mobile For Humanitarian Innovation Fund 2018 Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this application, the applicant must:

  • Be able to use mobile technology to proffer solutions to humanitarian challenges
  • Provide an evidence of partnership either through contract or MoU with one or more eligible organization(s) where the collaborating partner must be involved in executing the grant project.
  • Be able to identify how his/her project clearly meets one or more of the key focus areas
  • Have the project up and running before applying for this grant
  • Have the permission and rights required to operate in the selected implementation area.
  • Have a satisfactory financial record.
  • Organizations must be legally registered and licensed to operate in the country of operation
  • The organization that will sign the grant agreement with GSMA must be a mobile network operator (MNO), NGO, a humanitarian agency, or a private company in order to qualify for an M4H fund grant
  • Organizations like United Nations agencies, academic institutions, government bodies, etc cannot serve as lead applicants but can partner with other eligible organizations as an implementing partner
